Senior Portraits, Commercial Photography, Family Portraits, Wedding Photography…we’re doing it all!

The one thing I LOVE about this business is the fact that I get to be there for my clients at every milestone in their lives! I can’t tell you how many high school senior portrait clients have come back to ask me to be their wedding photographer, then come back to have me photograph their baby photos, family portraits, and even commercial photography for their business!

The image above is another example of this! Meet Alexa and Natalie! I did Natalie’s senior portraits in 1990; she even brought in her 8 way folio of her senior pictures to show me! I just photographed her daughter Alexa, a senior at Lindbergh High School in Renton, WA. Josh posted a highlight video of her recent senior portraits on our Seniors by Hudson’s Facebook Page, check it if you want!
Also, today I have a wedding consultation for a high school senior I photographed about 11 years ago. She was also a bridesmaid for another former high school senior’s wedding I shot 6 years ago up at Newcastle Golf Course. Her mom lives on the same lake I do and was actually really good friends with my late wife Sue Hudson in high school. Life, business, and my career as a professional photographer are truly all about relationships!
Below is a behind the scenes video of a recent commercial photography session at Dr. Jeffery Kashner’s in Covington, WA. And guess what? Surprise, surprise, he is also a family portrait client!

The ULTIMATE Family Portrait Sequence!

Today I was going through some images for a new webpage we are putting up called Northwest Water Lifestyle Portraits. We are so blessed to be surrounded by so many beautiful lakes, the Puget Sound, and vacation destinations like Lake Chelan here in the Northwest. My dad Bruce Hudson has really made a name for himself over the years photographing family portraits with our client’s lifestyles in mind, and our most popular setting as of the last 10 years or so has been lake and beach portraits.

So anyway, I came across this image, it’s from the Frost Family on Lake Sammamish. It’s a sequence of (4) 30x40 wall portraits hanging in their home. The story behind the 4 images is actually pretty funny. One of their grandsons was being “less than cooperative” during the session. Nothing big though, and my dad is used to dealing with kids about his age not wanting their picture taken. The boy kept threatening to jump in the water with his clothes on. His older cousins came up with a plan to toss him after the session was officially over. They let Bruce in on the little secret and he made sure he was ready with the camera. The result was a timeless family portrait sequence that proudly hangs in grandpa and grandma’s house now!

Like my dad always says in the consultation, it’s not just about the photograph, it’s about the experience. This sequence of images will be something the grandkids will be fighting over someday for their homes and everyone will remember the funny story behind it! I just thought I would share that with you!

August and September are great months for unique family portraits or even family beach portraits on your favorite lake, park, on your boat, or even in your own backyard! Give us a ring for your free design consultation today!

Summertime is for family portraits in Seattle!

August through November is family portrait time here at Hudson’s! Meet the Heller Family, they are long time clients from Auburn, WA. This image was created in their backyard during mom’s birthday weekend a few weeks ago. Everyone talks about getting some new family pictures, it’s often a topic over the dinner table for most families. But what holds people back? Well, in my 28 years of photographing families in the Seattle area and all over the country for that matter, here’s the most used excuse- “Everyone is so busy, we are never together in one place!” Here’s some tips for getting the family together:

  • Plan a family portrait during milestone events in the family like birthdays, weddings, reunions, or even make the family portrait the event to get everyone together!
  • Let us help you plan for the family portrait! Why go it alone? We’ve worked with countless families over the years in helping them plan their unique family portraits, we even helped organize a large family portrait session in Maui!
  • Realize that having a family portrait is not an immediate need, until it’s too late. Unfortunately, many times I meet with families who have recently lost a family member and now regret never having a professional family portrait. Like I stated above, let us help you plan this with your family.

The weather is nice and the kids are home from college, what’s stopping you from a one of a kind family heirloom? A big thanks goes out to the Heller Family, thanks for the 20+ years of friendship and patronage! The biggest compliment I can receive as an artist is seeing my work from 20 years ago still proudly displayed in their home! The Heller family portrait session was part of the Day in the Life video my son Josh Hudson filmed for Youtube, click here to see some highlights from how their portrait was created!

Lake Lifestyle Family Portraits- Lake Sawyer

2 of our favorite kinds of family pictures here at Hudson's are Family Beach Portraits in places like Cannon Beach, OR and on the Washington coast, and creating beautiful family portraits on the lakes our client's live on! We've actually become very well known for this around Western Washington as being the professional photographer who can create these one of kind peices of art on the water. Bruce has clients on most of the major lakes in Washington like Lake Sammamish, Lake Meridian, Lake Tapps, Lake Washington, and we even travel to Lake Chelan once a year! The image above is from a session on Lake Sawyer a few nights ago!

The Siplia Family goes way back with Bruce, Nani, the mom was a student of his when he taught band at Tahoma High School in the early 80's! And, she was also my (Josh) kindergarten teacher at Lake Wilderness Elementary School in Maple Valley! The mountain was out the colors just poped! Thanks Siplia family for a great session, see you on the lake this summer!

Russ’s 85th Birthday!

One of my fellow Rotarians and “wine buddies” Russ Price just turned 85! 5 years ago I was asked to photograph some family portraits at his home in Renton, WA while his children were in town to celebrate his 80th birthday. Well, 5 years later I was once again tasked with capturing another milestone event in his life. This time, we hit 4 generations with the portrait!

All of us have events in our lives that bring our families together. Whether it’s a family reunion, a wedding, grad party, the holidays, or an 85th birthday party, they are all the perfect times to update those family portraits!
Thanks again for letting me be part of your family and your special event Russ, you da man!

It finally hit 75 degrees! Wahooo!

I heard on the news last night that it’s been over 270 days since the temperature has gone above 75 degrees in Seattle. We’ve had a lot of clients express interest in having their family photographed this summer, but want to wait until the weather gets nicer. So for those of you who have been patiently waiting for the thermometer to hit 75, here’s an offer for you!

To celebrate this “historic” 75 degree day here in the Northwest, all family session fees are just $75!

That’s right; all studio or on-location session fees will be just $75 until tomorrow (June 24th) at 4:00pm. Just call us, pay the $75 session fee, and when you’re ready to have the session this summer or fall it won’t cost you $150-$250! Sweet deal! But after June 24th at 4:00pm, they will go back to our normal rate.

If you have thinking of having your family portrait done this summer or even this fall, this is a no brainer! Give us a call! If you’re not in need a new family portrait, chances are you know someone who is. Pass this along to them; they will love you for it! Plus, you’ll qualify for some great referral benefits too!

Happy 75 Degrees Seattle, we’ve waited a LOOOOOONG time for this! LOL!

Hello Dawg Fans!

What a fun day! A lot of our clients are die hard Husky fans, many of which are football season ticket holders or Tyee Club members. Needless to say, we have an "in" at Husky Stadium. Today we photographed the Heindel Family where their season tickets are, near the tunnel, and on the field. The weather held off until right after we were finished! What a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

I photographed the Heindel's a few years ago in Safe Co. Field and they thought I could never top that. Well, stay tunned for some great images, I think we accomplished our mission! Josh will be posting some highlights from the session on Facebook, connect with us and check them out next week! So that bags the question Dawg Fans...how Dawg are you? Check out some video highlights below!

Thanks guys!
